Job Description:
A Deputy CEO or senior leader (such as Vice President or AVP) for a Sinter Plant is responsible for the overall strategic direction, operational excellence, production targets, and profitability of the sintering unit within an integrated steel plant. This role bridges the gap between raw material processing and ironmaking (Blast Furnace/DRI), focusing on cost optimization and quality. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Leadership: Oversee end-to-end Sinter Plant operations, including raw mix proportioning, strand operation, burn-through point control, and return fines balance.
- Production & Quality Metrics: Ensure adherence to production targets and maintain strict quality standards, including TI (Tumble Index), RI (Reduction Index), RDI (Reduction Degradation Index), and \(Fe\) content.
- Strategic Planning & Budgeting: Develop and execute Annual Business Plans (ABP), managing O&M (Operation & Maintenance) budgets to optimize resource utilization.
- Project Commissioning & Technology: Lead sintering technology upgrades, new machine installations, and plant commissioning (e.g., ESP, fan improvements, DCS).
- Safety & Compliance: Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols (PSM, PTW, LOTO) and environmental regulations (emission norms).
- Manpower & Vendor Management: Lead large teams (including vendors) and coordinate with Blast Furnace, Raw Material Handling System (RMHS), and Maintenance departments. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Education: B.E./B.Tech in Metallurgy, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering. A postgraduate degree (MBA or M.Tech) is preferred.
- Experience: 15–20+ years of experience in the steel industry, with substantial time spent in Sinter Plant operations, including at least 5–7 years in a senior leadership role (e.g., Chief, AGM, or GM).
- Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of sintering technologies, raw material properties, and agglomeration processes.
- Leadership Skills: Proven experience in leading large, multi-disciplinary teams and managing industrial relations. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]
