Job Description:
A Fabricator in a fabrication plant constructs, assembles, and repairs metal components and structures by interpreting blueprints, cutting, shaping, and welding materials. They operate machinery like shears, grinders, and presses to meet exact specifications while strictly adhering to safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Blueprint Interpretation: Read, analyze, and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and blueprints to determine material requirements and dimensions.
- Fabrication Operations: Cut, bend, shape, and straighten metal components using various tools and machines (e.g., plasma cutters, CNC machines, shears, brakes).
- Welding and Assembly: Assemble parts into finished products using MIG, TIG, or Stick welding, brazing, or soldering techniques.
- Quality Control: Inspect finished work for accuracy, functionality, and structural integrity, using measuring tools like calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
- Safety and Maintenance: Adhere to all safety protocols (OSHA) and maintain equipment in good working order to ensure a safe, efficient work area.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: Usually 3+ years in a manufacturing, production, or metal fabrication environment.
- Technical Knowledge: Proficiency in metal properties and fabrication techniques.
- Tool Proficiency: Experience with hand tools and heavy machinery.
- Physical Strength: Ability to lift 50+ pounds and stand for extended periods.
- Certification: AWS (American Welding Society) certification is often preferred.
