Job Description:
A Dozer Operator in transportation services/heavy civil construction safely operates bulldozers to clear, move, and grade earth, rock, and materials for roads, rail beds, and infrastructure projects. Responsibilities include site preparation, slope finishing, machine maintenance, and adhering to strict safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Machine Operation: Operate dozers, and potentially loaders or excavators, to clear land, excavate, backfill, and move debris.
- Grading & Leveling: Perform precise grading (to the 10th), shape stockpiles, and achieve specified terrain levels.
- Maintenance: Perform routine inspections, daily checks, and minor repairs (e.g., lubricating, fueling, tightening tracks).
- Safety Adherence: Follow all company and site-specific safety policies, and maintain clear communication with site supervisors and haul truck operators.
- Production Monitoring: Monitor terrain conditions (wet/rocky) and adjust blade/machine settings for optimal efficiency.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Experience: Proven experience (often 2+ years) operating dozers in construction or mining environments.
- Licensing: Valid heavy equipment operator license or commercial driver’s license (CDL) to transport machinery.
- Technical Knowledge: Ability to read grade stakes, interpret blueprints, and understand hydraulic controls.
- Physical Ability: Must be capable of lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing on/off equipment, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
