Job Description:
A Poclain (Excavator) Operator in transportation and logistics services is responsible for operating heavy hydraulic machinery to load, unload, and move bulk materials (such as sand, gravel, stone, or cargo) from transport vehicles (trucks, trailers, rail cars) or storage areas. They ensure materials are moved securely and efficiently while adhering to safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Loading/Unloading: Safely operate the Poclain/excavator to load and unload raw materials or finished products from trailers, dump trucks, and rail cars.
- Material Handling & Transport: Move heavy materials from storage sites or docks to production areas, work sites, or storage bins.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere strictly to workplace safety regulations, OSHA standards, and traffic laws to prevent accidents and damage to cargo or equipment.
- Equipment Maintenance: Conduct daily pre-operational inspections, routine cleaning, lubrication, and basic troubleshooting of the machine.
- Site Coordination: Work alongside transport drivers, logisticians, and ground crew to ensure optimal loading, proper weight distribution, and orderly movement of materials.
- Documentation: Maintain daily logs of machine operations, fuel consumption, and hours worked.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Experience: A minimum of 2+ years of experience in operating hydraulic excavators/Poclain machines.
- Technical Knowledge: Proficiency in excavator controls, attachments (buckets, breakers), and understanding of hydraulic systems.
- Operator Certification: Valid operator's license or relevant certification required.
- Precision: Excellent hand-eye coordination for precise loading, often in tight spaces.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to work in challenging weather conditions and perform manual tasks if needed.
- Safety Focus: Knowledge of proper rigging and material securing methods.
