Job Description:
A Loader Operator for Transportation Services is a skilled heavy equipment operator responsible for loading, unloading, and moving materials (such as aggregates, raw materials, or freight) onto trucks, railcars, or conveyors, ensuring safe and efficient transportation processes. This role combines technical machinery operation with logistical coordination to ensure that materials are moved quickly, accurately, and safely to their destinations.
Key Responsibilities
- Operating Heavy Equipment: Safely operate front-end loaders, wheel loaders, or similar machinery to load, unload, and transport materials like dirt, rock, sand, and gravel.
- Logistical Coordination: Partner with truck drivers, dispatchers, and plant personnel to fill hoppers, load customer trucks to specific weights (e.g., following the CAT 10/10/20 rule), and manage material flow.
- Equipment Maintenance: Perform daily pre-operational inspections, routine maintenance, and cleaning of the loader, including lubricating parts, checking fluid levels, and refueling.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere strictly to all OSHA, state, federal, and local safety regulations, including using proper PPE (hard hats, safety glasses, vests), maintaining site safety, and reporting hazards immediately.
- Site Maintenance: Maintain stockpiles, ensure proper pad levels, and keep the loading area clean, clear of debris, and safe for traffic.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of materials moved, equipment maintenance, and shift reports.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Generally requires 1-3 years of previous experience operating heavy equipment, specifically loaders.
- License/Certification: Valid driver’s license is required; specialized heavy equipment operator certification is highly preferred.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to climb ladders/stairs, sit for long periods, work in extreme outdoor weather conditions (heat, cold, noise, dust), and lift up to 50–75 lbs.
- Skills: Strong spatial awareness, hand-eye coordination, ability to follow directions, and basic knowledge of mechanical components.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a quarry, construction site, or logistics terminal.
- Experience in loading trucks or railcars in a fast-paced environment.
