Job Description:
A Senior Lab Chemist (Ferro) in a pipes manufacturing or steel industry company is responsible for leading the quality control (QC) operations, analyzing the chemical composition of raw materials (ore, coal, flux) and finished ferroalloys (FeMn, SiMn, FeCr) to ensure they meet stringent industry standards (ISO/BIS) for pipe production. They often supervise junior chemists, maintain advanced laboratory instrumentation, and optimize furnace processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Raw Material & Product Analysis: Conduct advanced qualitative and quantitative chemical analyses on raw materials and finished ferroalloys to ensure quality compliance.
- Process Control: Monitor furnace processes by analyzing in-process samples to adjust production parameters (e.g., slag, metal recovery) in real-time.
- Laboratory Management: Operate, calibrate, and maintain sophisticated lab equipment such as X-ray Fluorescence (XRF), Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (AAS), and Carbon-Sulphur analyzers.
- Quality Assurance & Documentation: Meticulously record test data, prepare MIS reports, and report non-conforming materials to management.
- Supervision & Mentorship: Lead the laboratory team, provide training to junior chemists, and ensure adherence to safety protocols (5S/GMP).
- Troubleshooting & R&D: Investigate production issues related to metal composition and assist in developing/optimizing analytical methods for process efficiency.
Qualifications
- Education: M.Sc. in Chemistry (Analytical or Inorganic preferred) or a B.Sc. in Chemistry with extensive experience.
- Experience: 3–10 years of experience in metallurgical, steel, or ferroalloy plant laboratories.
- Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of wet chemistry, instrumental analysis, and metallurgical quality standards.
Required Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite for reporting.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to work in shifts.
