Job Description:
A Raw Material Processing (RMP) Supervisor in a steel pipes manufacturing company (or associated steel plant, such as DRI/Sponge Iron) is responsible for overseeing the preparation, handling, and feeding of raw materials (e.g., iron ore, coal, lime) to the furnace or production line during a designated shift. They ensure that materials are processed according to quality standards and that production schedules are met safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
1. Operational Supervision (Shift Management)
- Lead and manage the RMP team, including machine operators and helpers, to ensure uninterrupted raw material supply.
- Ensure that rotary kilns, conveyors, crushers, and screening machines operate efficiently, minimizing downtime.
- Oversee shift activities, including raw material feeding, process monitoring (temperature, pressure), and material preparation.
- Conduct safe and efficient handovers between shifts.
2. Quality Control & Process Monitoring
- Ensure that prepared raw materials (sponge iron, sized coal, etc.) meet company-defined quality specs (size, composition, moisture).
- Monitor process parameters in real-time and coordinate with the SMS (Steel Melting Shop) or Production Manager for compliance.
- Implement 5S, Kaizen, or Six Sigma principles to improve material quality and reduce waste.
3. Material Handling & Inventory Control
- Manage the FIFO (First-In, First-Out) material flow to prevent inventory stagnation.
- Monitor inventory levels in bunkers and daily stock areas.
4. Safety & Maintenance
- Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols (PPE, LOTO) and housekeeping standards.
- Identify machinery issues and coordinate with the maintenance team for prompt repairs (Preventive Maintenance).
- Conduct toolbox talks and safety inspections.
5. Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare detailed shift reports covering production, quality, and maintenance issues.
- Report any accidents or anomalies promptly to management.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with raw material preparation equipment like crushers, screeners, and rotary kilns.
- Leadership: Experience leading a team in a manufacturing/steel/chemical environment.
- Problem-Solving: Strong skills to troubleshoot operational bottlenecks quickly.
- Communication: Effective interpersonal skills for coordinating with different departments (QC, Maintenance, Logistics).
- Computer Skills: Familiarity with reporting software and data analysis.
Educational & Experience Requirements
- Qualification: Diploma or B.Sc. in Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field (e.g., Diploma in Mechanical/Mining).
- Experience: Generally 2–7 years of experience in the steel industry (Sponge Iron, DRI, or Integrated Steel Plant).
- Location: Often available in industrial hubs like Chhattisgarh (Raipur/Bilaspur) or Gujarat.
