Job Description:
A Field Operator in a steel manufacturing company operates, monitors, and maintains production machinery (e.g., furnaces, pumps, casters) to ensure safe, efficient operation, typically working on-site to control process parameters, perform routine maintenance, troubleshoot equipment, and adhere strictly to safety protocols (PTW/LOTO).
Key Responsibilities
- Process Monitoring: Monitor equipment parameters like temperature, pressure, and flow rates from local gauges and DCS systems.
- Operational Control: Safely operate equipment, including startup and shutdown of machinery, as per standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Perform routine "first-line" maintenance, such as lubrication or tightening joints, and troubleshoot malfunctions to prevent downtime.
- Safety Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to safety standards, including Permit to Work (PTW) systems, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and reporting hazards.
- Data Recording: Maintain accurate, timely logs of equipment performance and logbook entries.
- Coordination: Communicate effectively with control room operators, supervisors, and maintenance teams.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Education: ITI or Diploma in Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical/Chemical preferred).
- Experience: Previous experience in a steel plant, power plant, or heavy industry is typically required, often 3–5 years for specialized roles.
- Technical Skills: Knowledge of machinery (pumps, compressors, conveyors), troubleshooting skills, and ability to read technical drawings.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to work in a, hot, noisy, and physically demanding industrial environment.
- Traits: Attention to detail, quick response to emergencies, and strong teamwork skills.
