Job Description:
A Fitter in a power plant for a steel manufacturing company installs, maintains, and repairs critical machinery like turbines, conveyors, pumps, and boilers. They perform routine maintenance, troubleshoot breakdowns, align components, and weld, ensuring optimal operation of the power generation unit, adhering strictly to safety standards, and interpreting technical drawings.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintenance & Repair: Perform preventative, routine, and emergency maintenance on heavy power plant machinery, including boilers, turbines, pumps, valves, and conveyor systems.
- Installation & Alignment: Install new machinery and components, ensuring precise alignment (laser or dial indicator) and assembling structural parts according to engineering blueprints.
- Fabrication & Welding: Use workshop tools, including cutting torches, welding gear (MIG/TIG), lathes, and grinding machines to modify or fabricate parts.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose malfunctions in hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems and repair them quickly to minimize plant downtime.
- Safety Adherence: Strictly follow all health and safety regulations (e.g., Lock-out/Tag-out) and use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in high-pressure/temperature environments.
- Documentation: Maintain maintenance records, checklists, and documentation of work done.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Education: ITI in Fitter Trade (Mandatory).
- Experience: 3 to 8 years of experience in power plant maintenance, specifically with turbines, boilers, or coal handling systems, is often required.
- Technical Skills: Ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints and technical drawings. Proficiency in welding and pipefitting is crucial.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to work in challenging environments (high heat, height, confined spaces) and available for shift work/shutdowns.
