Job Description:
A Coal Handling Plant (CHP) Fitter in a steel manufacturing company is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and optimal functionality of mechanical equipment used to transport, crush, and manage coal for the plant's captive power plant or furnaces. They ensure uninterrupted fuel supply by minimizing downtime of conveyors, crushers, and pumps.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Preventive & Breakdown Maintenance: Perform routine checks, lubrication, and breakdown repairs on conveyor belts, pulleys, gearboxes, idlers, crushers, and screens.
- Equipment Overhauling: Dismantle, repair, and assemble heavy machinery like pumps and motors to maintain ready spares.
- Alignment and Installation: Assemble and align new mechanical components and structural parts according to technical drawings and blueprints.
- Troubleshooting: Identify root causes of equipment malfunction, specifically rotating equipment, and implement corrective actions.
- Fabrication and Fitting: Cut, shape, and weld metal parts using gas cutting torches or arc welding equipment as needed.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to strict safety protocols, including LOTO (Lock Out, Tag Out), and maintain housekeeping (5S) in the coal handling area.
- Monitoring and Reporting: Monitor vibration, temperature, and wear of equipment to predict failures and prepare detailed maintenance reports.
Requirements
- Education: ITI in Fitter Trade or related mechanical discipline.
- Experience: 3 to 8 years of experience in maintenance, preferably in a CHP plant, captive power plant, or steel/manufacturing industry.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in reading engineering drawings/blueprints, using precision measuring tools (micrometers, vernier calipers), and welding (MIG/TIG/Arc).
- Physical Strength: Ability to work in challenging, noisy environments, at heights, or in confined spaces.
