Job Description:
A Graduate Engineer Trainee (GET) - Operations in a steel manufacturing company is an entry-level position designed to train engineering graduates in the core processes of steel production. The GET works under senior engineers to learn, monitor, and improve operations within departments such as the Blast Furnace, Steel Melting Shop (SMS), Rolling Mill, or DRI plant, with a focus on safety, production efficiency, and quality.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
- Production Monitoring: Assisting in daily production operations, managing charge materials, and overseeing melting/rolling processes to meet daily targets.
- Preventive & Predictive Maintenance: Executing maintenance activities for heavy mechanical equipment (furnaces, ladles, conveyors, rolling mills) to minimize downtime.
- Process Optimization: Analyzing root causes (RCA) of mechanical breakdowns and process deviations to improve efficiency.
- Safety Compliance: Strict adherence to, and enforcement of, plant safety protocols, including LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) and PPE, to promote a zero-accident environment.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintaining accurate logs, preparing MIS reports regarding production, consumption, and plant performance.
- Quality Control: Supporting quality teams to ensure finished products comply with international steel standards.
- Erection & Commissioning: Assisting in installation and troubleshooting of new machinery.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- Education: B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical, Metallurgical, or Electrical Engineering.
- Technical Skills: Knowledge of Steel Plant Operations (SMS/DRI/Rolling Mill), AutoCAD, CAD design, and PLC/DCS systems.
- Skills: Strong analytical ability for RCA, problem-solving, team coordination, and proficiency in MS Office/ERP.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to work in a high-temperature industrial environment and work in shifts.
Common Work Environment:
- Steel Plants (Induction Furnace, DRI Plants, Integrated Steel Plants).
- Fast-paced shop floor involving heavy machinery.
- Extensive coordination with shop floor staff, maintenance, and quality control teams.
