Job Description:
A Quality Control (QC) Manager in a fabrication plant ensures all products meet structural, safety, and client specifications. They lead inspections, enforce welding/NDT standards (e.g., ASME, AWS), manage QC teams, audit materials, and implement corrective actions, requiring 10+ years of experience and strong knowledge of fabrication processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Quality System Management: Develop, implement, and maintain the Quality Management System (QMS) and ensure compliance with codes such as ASME, AWS, and ISO standards.
- Inspection & Testing: Oversee all NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) methods—such as Radiographic (RT), Ultrasonic (UT), Magnetic Particle (MT), and Dye Penetrant (PT) testing—to ensure structural integrity.
- Welding Compliance: Approve and track Welder Performance Qualification Records (WPQR) and Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).
- Material & Vendor Quality: Inspect raw materials and manage quality compliance for sub-contractors and suppliers.
- Documentation Control: Maintain accurate quality records, reports, and documentation for client submission, including final inspection approvals.
- Team Leadership: Hire, train, and supervise inspectors and technicians, ensuring a strong safety and quality culture.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify root causes of defects, implement corrective actions, and improve processes to reduce waste and maximize resources.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Experience: 10+ years in fabrication or structural steel manufacturing, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Education: Degree in Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
- Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of welding techniques, materials engineering, and structural drawings.
- Certifications: Commonly requires certifications such as AWS-CWI, CSWIP, NDT Level II/III, or API certifications (510/570).
- Communication: Strong interpersonal skills for coordinating with production teams and clients.
