Job Description:
A Steel Melting Shop (SMS) Supervisor in a steel manufacturing company manages daily production, safety, and quality for EAF/Induction Furnaces and CCM, ensuring target output while minimizing costs. Responsibilities include overseeing charging, melting, casting, team management, and maintenance coordination to ensure smooth operations and high-quality steel.
Key Responsibilities
- Production Management: Oversee daily SMS operations (furnace, ladle furnace, CCM) to meet production volume and scheduling targets.
- Safety & Compliance: Enforce strict health, safety, and environmental protocols in the, often hazardous, shop environment.
- Quality Control: Ensure chemical consistency, temperature, and quality of steel meet strict specifications, reducing defects.
- Process Optimization: Optimize charge mix (scrap, sponge iron), improve yields, and reduce tap-to-tap time.
- Team Leadership: Supervise operators, technicians, and workers, managing scheduling and training.
- Maintenance Coordination: Work with the maintenance team to execute preventive and breakdown maintenance of furnaces and cranes.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Diploma or B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical or Metallurgical Engineering.
- Experience: Generally 5-10+ years in SMS operations, with specific knowledge of EAF, induction furnaces, or caster operations.
Key Competencies
- Strong understanding of steelmaking metallurgy and process parameters.
- Troubleshooting abilities for furnace and CCM failures.
- Excellent shift management and team leadership skills.
