Job Description:
A Structural CAD Engineer for a Project Consultant acts as the vital link between conceptual design and tangible construction, responsible for creating precise 2D and 3D drawings for RCC and steel structures, in compliance with international standards (such as IS, Eurocode, or AISC). They are typically embedded within consulting firms to develop detailed shop drawings, reinforcement details, and structural layouts while coordinating with architects and structural engineers to prevent design clashes.
Key Responsibilities
- Design & Modeling: Create detailed 2D/3D models and structural layouts using software like AutoCAD and Revit.
- Drafting & Detailing: Prepare RCC reinforcement details (beams, slabs, columns, footings), structural steel drawings, sections, and elevations.
- Coordination: Collaborate with structural engineers, architects, and project managers to resolve design clashes.
- Documentation: Maintain proper drawing records, update revisions based on site requirements, and generate Bill of Quantities (BOQ) or Bar Bending Schedules (BBS).
- Quality Management: Adhere to office CAD manuals, quality standards, and building codes to ensure technical accuracy.
- Site Support: Support site teams with design clarifications and visit construction sites to check for conformity.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Education: Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Software Proficiency: Expert-level AutoCAD (Mandatory), with strong knowledge of Revit, Tekla Structures, or CATIA V5 being highly preferred.
- Experience: Generally 2-10 years of experience in structural consultancy, focusing on building or infrastructure projects.
- Technical Knowledge: Good understanding of RCC and structural steel detailing, with the ability to interpret engineering drawings.
- Soft Skills: Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and effective communication to interact with other consultants.
