Job Description:
A Purchase Officer in a construction company manages the end-to-end procurement of materials (steel, cement, sand), equipment, and services, ensuring high-quality supplies arrive on time and within budget. They negotiate with vendors, manage purchase orders, analyze costs, and maintain inventory levels to support project timelines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Procurement Strategy: Research, evaluate, and select reliable vendors and suppliers.
- Negotiation: Negotiate contract terms, pricing, and payment terms to maximize ROI.
- Order Management: Issue purchase orders (POs), track deliveries, and resolve shortages or quality issues.
- Coordination: Collaborate with site engineers, project managers, and accounts to ensure material availability.
- Cost Control: Analyze market trends and prepare reports on costs to maintain budgetary compliance.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of purchases, invoices, and inventory levels (e.g., GRN, ERP updates).
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Experience: Generally 3-5+ years in construction material procurement or a related field.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering, Supply Chain, or Business Administration.
- Skills: Proficiency in MS Office (Excel) and ERP/Tally software.
- Competencies: Strong negotiation, analytical, communication, and time-management skills.
