Job Description:
A General Manager (GM) of Pipe Production (or Plant Head) is a senior-level executive responsible for overseeing the entire manufacturing operations of a pipe production facility, including plastic (UPVC, CPVC, HDPE) or steel (ERW) pipes. This role ensures maximum production efficiency, quality compliance, and cost optimization, often acting as a profit center head.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Leadership: Direct, lead, and manage daily plant operations, including production, maintenance, quality control (QC/QA), and dispatch.
- Production Planning & Control: Achieve production targets (volume, quality, and timelines) while managing resources, manpower, and machine capacity effectively.
- Process Optimization & Technical Expertise: Drive continuous improvements, such as Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, and reducing wastage. Oversee machine setting, troubleshooting, and new product development.
- Quality Management: Ensure compliance with international and national standards (e.g., API, IS, ASTM, EN, DIN) and maintain ISO certifications.
- Maintenance & Asset Management: Oversee the maintenance of extrusion, injection, or galvanizing machinery to minimize downtime.
- Cost Management & Budgeting: Develop and manage operating budgets, including raw material consumption and conversion costs.
- Safety & Compliance: Implement and enforce strict safety standards, environmental protocols, and statutory compliances (HSE).
- Team Leadership: Build a high-performance culture by managing, training, and developing plant staff.
Key Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, or Metallurgy. A degree or diploma in Plastic Engineering (e.g., CIPET) is highly preferred for plastic pipe manufacturers.
- Experience: 15+ years of experience in manufacturing, with at least 5+ years in a senior management role (GM, AGM, or Plant Head) within the pipe industry.
- Technical Skills: Deep knowledge of pipe manufacturing processes (Extrusion, Injection, Blow Molding, or Steel Rolling/Welding).
- Soft Skills: Proven leadership, decision-making, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Systems: Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP), MIS reporting, and MS Office.
