Job Description:
An Induction Furnace Melter job involves operating and monitoring induction furnaces to melt, refine, and produce molten metal, requiring skills in furnace control, material charging (scrap, alloys), temperature management, tapping, refractory maintenance (lining), and strict adherence to safety protocols (PPE, SOPs) to ensure correct metal composition and quality for casting. Key duties include coordinating with crane operators, maintaining production logs, inspecting equipment, and performing basic maintenance in hot, dusty environments, often lifting heavy materials.
Key Responsibilities:
- Furnace Operation: Start, stop, and control induction furnaces for melting metal, adjusting power and controls as needed.
- Material Handling: Charge the furnace with raw materials (scrap, pig iron, ferroalloys) and coordinate with crane operators for loading and tapping.
- Quality & Metallurgy: Monitor temperature, metal composition, and remove impurities to meet quality standards.
- Maintenance: Inspect, maintain, and repair furnace linings (refractory) and other equipment.
- Safety & Documentation: Follow all safety procedures, wear PPE, and maintain accurate production and maintenance records.
- Coordination: Work closely with crane operators, supervisors, and other production staff.
Essential Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience in induction furnace operation, lining, and sintering.
- Ability to work with heavy machinery and lift significant weight.
- Knowledge of basic metallurgy and quality control.
- Strong awareness of safety protocols (PPE, SOPs).
- Basic math, reading, and writing skills.
- Comfort working in extreme temperatures and dusty conditions.
- High school diploma or equivalent often required.
