A Head of Logistics for a steel manufacturing company directs end-to-end transportation, warehousing, and distribution, focusing on cost-effective, safe, and timely movement of raw materials and finished goods. Key responsibilities include optimizing fleet/3PL performance, managing ODC cargo, ensuring regulatory compliance, and driving logistics efficiency to support sales.Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Planning: Develop logistics strategies to reduce logistics cost per ton, optimizing transportation routes and vehicle capacity.
- Operations & Dispatch: Lead inbound/outbound logistics, ensuring safe and timely delivery of steel products (finished goods, raw materials).
- Vendor & Fleet Management: Manage 3PL, transporters, and internal fleets, negotiating contracts and ensuring compliance with transport regulations.
- Safety & Compliance: Enforce a zero-accident policy in material handling and ensure 100% statutory compliance, including ODC (Over Dimensional Consignment) cargo handling.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Coordinate with production, procurement, and sales teams to manage supply chains, inventory, and reduce lead times.
- Technology & Reporting: Utilize ERP/TMS systems for tracking and provide MIS reports on logistics performance.
Required Qualifications & Skills- Experience: 10–18 years in logistics, with at least 5 years in a leadership role, preferably in the steel, TMT, or heavy building materials industry.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, or Engineering (MBA preferred).
- Expertise: Deep knowledge of heavy/oversized cargo handling, railway logistics, and route planning.
- Skills: Strong negotiation, analytical, and leadership skills.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)- Logistics cost per ton.
- On-time delivery (OTD) percentage.
- Freight optimization percentage.
- Inventory accuracy and turnover.
