Job Description:
A Computer Operator manages and monitors computer systems, hardware (servers, peripherals), and networks, ensuring efficient operation, performing backups, installing updates, troubleshooting issues, and managing data entry and security, often in data centers or server rooms, providing crucial support for an organization's IT backbone. Key duties involve monitoring systems, executing scheduled tasks, handling backups, resolving technical problems, updating software, maintaining logs, and providing basic user support, requiring strong problem-solving, attention to detail, and adherence to protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- System Monitoring: Oversee system performance, monitor alerts, and manage hardware like servers, printers, and tape drives.
- Data Management
:Execute data entry, perform regular backups, manage storage, and ensure data integrity.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, or network issues, and respond to system errors.
- Software Management: Install updates, patches, and new software.
- Security: Follow security protocols, manage access, and protect sensitive data.
- Reporting & Documentation: Maintain operational logs, generate reports, and document procedures.
- User Support: Assist users with queries and provide basic technical guidanc.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
- Technical Skills: Familiarity with operating systems (Windows, Linux/UNIX), data management tools, and hardware.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills to resolve technical issues.
- Attention to Detail: Meticulous in data handling and following procedures.
- Communication: Ability to communicate technical issues clearly.
- Education: High school diploma often required, with IT certifications or degrees being beneficial.
Work Environment
