Job Description:
Core Responsibilities
Key duties vary by specific role and plant type but generally include:
- Operations & Maintenance: Overseeing the routine operation and maintenance of specific equipment like turbines, generators, compressors, pumps, motors, and control panels.
- Troubleshooting & Repairs: Responding to breakdowns, diagnosing faults, performing repairs, and assisting in root cause analysis to minimize plant downtime.
- Safety & Compliance: Ensuring strict adherence to safety procedures (e.g., LOTO, PPE use), quality standards (ISO guidelines), and environmental regulations.
- Project Support: Assisting with the installation, testing, and commissioning of new equipment and supporting plant expansion or improvement projects.
- Supervision & Coordination: Supervising a team of technicians and contract workers, providing technical guidance, and coordinating activities with other departments like production and maintenance.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintaining accurate logs, preparing reports related to performance, maintenance activities, and inventory/consumption of materials (e.g., refractories, spares, chemicals).
- Process Improvement: Identifying opportunities for cost reduction, optimizing resource utilization, and implementing process improvements.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Education: A Bachelor's degree (B.E./B.Tech) or Diploma in a relevant engineering field (e.g., Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical) is typically required.
- Experience: Relevant industrial experience, often 3 to 8+ years in a steel plant, power plant, rolling mill, or similar heavy manufacturing environment.
- Technical Skills: Hands-on experience with relevant machinery, maintenance practices (preventive and predictive), and knowledge of systems like SAP or CMMS software.
