Job Description:
A Deputy Manager, IT Systems & Networks is responsible for managing and maintaining an organization's network infrastructure, including servers, routers, switches, and firewalls. Key duties include configuring network devices, performing system upgrades and maintenance, monitoring performance, ensuring security, and providing Level 2/3 technical support. The role also involves strategic planning, capacity management, and team supervision to ensure the IT infrastructure aligns with business needs.
Key responsibilities
- Network and system management:
- Install, configure, and maintain network devices such as routers, switches, and firewalls.
- Manage and administer Windows Server environments, Active Directory, DNS, and Group Policies.
- Oversee server and link load balancers, with knowledge of virtualization (like VMware ESXi or Microsoft Hyper-V) being an advantage.
- Manage email servers and handle email delivery issues.
- Performance and security:
- Monitor network performance and system availability, performing capacity planning.
- Implement and maintain security tools, policies, and procedures.
- Ensure firmware and security updates are applied to critical network components.
- Keep backups of network device configurations.
- Support and troubleshooting:
- Provide Level 2/3 support to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues.
- Liaise with Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to resolve connectivity problems.
- Assist and supervise the IT helpdesk team.
- Strategic and administrative tasks:
- Assist in network architecture and planning, staying updated on new technologies.
- Ensure compliance with IT infrastructure processes and standards, such as ISO 27001.
- Manage IT asset inventory and maintain up-to-date records.
- Monitor team performance, create standard operating procedures (SOPs), and report to senior management.
Required skills and qualifications
- Hands-on experience with network devices like routers, switches, and firewalls.
- Strong understanding of networking protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, OSPF, BGP, IPsec, VPN).
- Proficiency with Windows Server and Active Directory.
- Experience with virtualization technologies is a plus.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication, organization, and time management skills.
- Experience in managing IT projects and teams is often required.
