ASST. CHEMIST QC SMS FOR STEEL INDUSTRY - RAIPUR , CHHATTISGARH

Job Description:

• Conduct chemical and instrumental analysis on raw materials (like iron ore, coal, and limestone), in-process steel samples, and finished products.
• Test ferroalloys (such as ferromanganese and ferrosilicon), steel, pig iron, and other materials for elements including carbon, sulfur, phosphorus, and manganese.
• Perform routine testing using specialized equipment like spectrometers, carbon-sulfur analyzers, and XRF (X-ray fluorescence).
• Use both wet chemistry and instrumental analysis techniques. 

• Ensure that all products adhere to internal and external quality standards and specifications, such as BIS and ASTM methods.
• Implement and maintain strict quality control procedures and protocols throughout the steelmaking process.
• Provide timely and accurate analytical data to the production and metallurgy departments to assist with process control and decision-making.
• Investigate deviations or quality issues, help determine the root cause, and support the implementation of corrective actions. 

• Perform regular maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of all laboratory instruments and testing equipment.
• Maintain usage logbooks and ensure all equipment operates effectively for consistent and reliable results. 

• Maintain meticulous and current records of all test results, analysis logs, and calibration data.
• Prepare detailed reports summarizing test findings for the quality control manager and other relevant departments.
• Assist with documentation related to quality management systems like ISO 9001. 

• Adhere to all plant safety protocols and environmental health guidelines, especially when handling chemicals and working in an industrial environment.
• Ensure all laboratory activities and procedures are in full compliance with safety and regulatory standards. 

• Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field.
• Experience: 1 to 3 years of experience in a quality control laboratory, preferably within a steel plant, ferroalloy plant, or other metallurgical industry.
• Technical knowledge:
  • Strong understanding of analytical chemistry techniques.
  • Familiarity with metallurgical chemistry and the specific processes of an SMS, such as secondary metallurgy.
  • Hands-on experience with relevant laboratory instruments.
• Skills:
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good documentation, reporting, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
