Job Description:
A General Manager (GM) of a power plant oversees daily operations, maintenance, and strategic planning to ensure efficient, safe, and profitable electricity generation. Key responsibilities include managing budgets, leading staff, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations, and maintaining equipment and plant performance. This role also involves stakeholder management and driving process improvements to meet operational and financial targets.
Key responsibilities

Operations and maintenance:Ensure the reliable and efficient generation of electricity by overseeing daily operations and maintenance activities. This includes planning and executing maintenance schedules, coordinating major overhauls, and responding to equipment failures.

Strategic planning and financial management:Develop and implement long-term strategies, set performance goals, and manage plant budgets to achieve cost-efficiency and profitability.

Team leadership:Manage, train, and develop a team of engineers, technicians, and other staff. Foster a culture of teamwork, communication, and continuous improvement.

Safety and compliance:Ensure the plant operates in compliance with all relevant safety, health, and environmental regulations. This includes implementing and enforcing safety protocols.

Stakeholder management:Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including suppliers, contractors, regulators, and customers.

Project management:Oversee plant projects from conception to completion, managing schedules, costs, and quality to ensure successful execution and handover.

Performance monitoring:Monitor and analyze plant performance metrics and KPIs, and prepare reports on plant operations and financial data.
Qualifications
- Experience in power plant operations and maintenance.
- Knowledge of different types of power plants (e.g., thermal, biomass, hydro).
- Strong leadership and decision-making skills.
- Experience with project management tools like Primavera or MS Project.
- Understanding of Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and tariff management.
- Proficiency in cost control and budgeting.
- Knowledge of technical specifications, equipment, and plant processes.
