Job Summary
The Gas Cutter is responsible for the safe and efficient cutting, trimming, and shaping of metal components within the foundry environment using gas cutting equipment, such as oxy-acetylene or oxy-fuel torches. This role requires precision, attention to safety protocols, and the ability to work collaboratively with the production and maintenance teams.

Key Responsibilities
- Cutting Operations: Perform manual and sometimes automated oxy-fuel (gas) cutting on various metal materials, including steel plates, sections, and pipes, as per job requirements.
- Material Preparation: Prepare materials for cutting, processing, or subsequent fabrication/welding by marking and guiding the flame along cutting lines according to blueprints, templates, or specifications.
- Equipment Operation & Maintenance: Set up, operate, and maintain gas cutting torches, regulators, hoses, and gas cylinders. This includes ensuring correct gas pressure settings and performing routine safety checks.
- Quality Control: Examine cut materials for imperfections and ensure cuts meet specified dimensions and quality standards.
- Safety & Compliance: Strictly adhere to all health, safety, and environmental (EHS) regulations, including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as gloves, goggles, and flame-retardant clothing, and following fire safety procedures.
- Work Environment Maintenance: Keep the work area clean and free of flammable materials and other hazards.
- Collaboration: Coordinate with welders, fitters, machine operators, and supervisors to ensure a smooth workflow and support overall plant operations.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience: Proven experience as a Gas Cutter, Flame Cutter, or Oxy-Fuel Operator in an industrial, fabrication, or foundry setting is preferred.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in using oxy-acetylene or oxy-LPG gas cutting torches.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
- Strong knowledge of different metal types and industrial cutting techniques.
- Ability to use measuring tools accurately (e.g., scale, tape measure).
- Physical Requirements: Physical fitness and stamina to work in industrial environments, which may be noisy, hot, and dusty, and ability to handle and move heavy objects.
- Safety Consciousness: A strong "safety first" mindset and knowledge of gas handling and fire prevention protocols.
- Education: Basic literacy is required; an ITI or relevant trade certificate in welding or gas cutting is advantageous.
