Job Description:
A General Manager (GM) of Mines oversees all aspects of a mining operation, ensuring it runs safely, efficiently, and profitably. This includes managing daily activities, coordinating with different departments, and adhering to environmental regulations. The GM is also responsible for strategic planning, budgeting, and driving the long-term growth of the mine. 
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Operational Oversight:
    Managing all mining activities, including drilling, blasting, loading, and hauling, ensuring they meet production targets. 
     
  • Safety and Compliance:
    Enforcing safety regulations, implementing safety management systems, and ensuring compliance with all relevant mining laws and environmental standards. 
     
  • Financial Management:
    Developing and managing budgets, controlling costs, and maximizing the profitability of the mine. 
     
  • Strategic Planning:
    Developing and implementing long-term strategies for the mine's growth and sustainability. 
     
  • Team Management:
    Supervising and mentoring a team of mining professionals, fostering a positive and productive work environment. 
     
  • Stakeholder Relations:
    Liaising with government bodies (like DGMS and Pollution Control Board), community members, and other stakeholders. 
     
  • Resource Management:
    Optimizing the use of resources, including equipment, materials, and personnel, to maximize efficiency. 
     
  • Continuous Improvement:
    Identifying and implementing new technologies and processes to improve efficiency, safety, and productivity. 
     
  • Problem Solving:
    Addressing operational challenges and implementing solutions to minimize disruptions and maximize output. 
     
In essence, the GM Mines acts as the leader and decision-maker for the entire mining operation, driving its success and ensuring its long-term viability.

The company is in midst of implementing a 0.42 Million Tonne Per Annum (MTPA) integrated steel plant to produce steel. Steel thus produced will consume 0.315 Million Tonne Sponge Iron from the proposed unit and 0.03 Million Tonne from the existing unit. Thus consuming the entire quantity of high grade sponge iron produced in its own manufacturing facilities. When iron is smelted from its ore by commercial processes, it contains more carbon, phosphorus, sulphar etc. than is desirable. To produce high quality steel, the elements must be brought to the within the desirable limits. The liquid steel is processed through AOD and VOD furnaces to achieve the desirable limits of elements. The liquid is then continuously casted into long slabs or through ingots.
