Steel thus produced will consume 0.315 Million Tonne Sponge Iron from the proposed unit and 0.03 Million Tonne from the existing unit. Thus consuming the entire quantity of high grade sponge iron produced in its own manufacturing facilities. When iron is smelted from its ore by commercial processes, it contains more carbon, phosphorus, sulphar etc. than is desirable. To produce high quality steel, the elements must be brought to the within the desirable limits. The liquid steel is processed through AOD and VOD furnaces to achieve the desirable limits of elements. The liquid is then continuously casted into long slabs or through ingots.
